A society is a body of humans generally seen as a community or group of humans - or other organisms of a single species - that is outlined by the bounds of cultural identity, social solidarity, functional interdependence, or eusociality. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals that share a distinctive culture or institutions. Like other groups, a society allows its individual members to achieve individual needs or wishes that they could not fulfill separately by themselves, without the existence of the social group. Society, however, may be unique in that it is ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of its constituent individuals. As a reality sui generis, or "of its own kind", it is emergently composed of social facts that often hinder rather than help the pursuits of the subjects that form its physical and psychological underpinnings.

More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied multitude of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society; or even a social organism such as an ant colony.

The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. Sociology is the study of society and social behavior.

A. Check out this link and speak to your French teacher about it. I believe it will have to be your teacher who applies. I hope this helps.

How close is the American society to the society written about in Fahrenheit 451?
Q. It seems to me that indoctrination is becoming more prevalent in our society. What are your thoughts? Even if you haven't read Farenheit 451, answer anyway.

A. Out of the classic dystopias--Farenheit 451, Anthem, 1984, and Brave New World, I think America most resembles Brave New World although it incorporates aspects of all four books, especially Orwell's "doublespeak".

What effect on society will there be if our magnetic poles flipped?
Q. Throughout Earth's history, the magnetic poles have periodically flipped, i.e. magnetic north goes to the South Pole and magnetic south goes to the North Pole. I read that we will soon be passing through the plane of rotation for the Milky Way, and I hypothesize this might trigger our poles to flip. What kind of effect could this have on our society, considering are increasing reliance on electronic devices?
Asked by Mercer Devil - Tue May 13 02:56:37 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, first of all the Earth's magnetism will o to zero before flipping. This will mean complete depletion of the ozone layer, and cosmic rays will pass right through the atmosphere. The moment you step out of the house, you will look like "an overcooked pizza" to quote Bill Bryson. The Earth's magnetism does flip once every 500 million years or so, but there are enough lucky survivors to prevent extinctions.

Keep out of our village.
