How do I form a P.A.? (professional association) What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Q. I am a real estate agent and it has been brought to my attention that there are tax benefits as well as liability benefits associated with the P.A. designation. I can't seem to find too much information on the internet regarding this topic. If anyone has any info, it would help. Thanks!! I am really concerned with the pros and cons of the P.A.

A. A PA is a legal form of business reserved for physicians, dentists, surgeons, etc. I think it cannot be used by a realtor. Please ask your attorney or CPA to help you choose whether to incorporate your business as a coporation, an LLC or as an LLP.

A. You are represented by the professional association in case of lawsuits and when you're looking for a job. It gives a certain identity and recognition to your job title and lets employers and the rest of the world know that you are well connected and not alone. Look at doctors associations, lawyers associations, etc. Very powerful associations which are almost impossible to attack.

How do you become a member of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association?
Q. What is the criteria? Do you apply? Is it by nomination? Appointment? Bonus Question- Can a player (Pearson) or GM (Vezina) vote for his own teammate/player for the award? I assume so but seems like a conflict of interest to me. Thanks Cyren...you would make for a fine informed vote. How many of these guys do you think are partial to the players in the city they write for?

At voting time, the chapter as a whole again chooses from the list of 30 nominees. Pearson Award - not only can an NHLPA member vote for a… [cont.]

A. Depends on where you are located (I'm in California) but not as far as I know, not in terms of any sort of a union or anything like that. Tattoo artist are notoriously free spirited but there are a number of professional groups that are more casual in nature. You can find them by Googling although I highly doubt that you'll find large number of really popular talented artist as members. they just rely on word of mouth and tattoo artists only need to pass cleanliness standards to be in business, they aren't regulated as far as i know.

Q. Why are professional standards important to an association?
Asked by BoomBoom - Fri Jan 16 16:32:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the association is going to attract members and have any influence, it needs to have credibility. To have credibility, it has to have (and enforce) minimum standards. If an association let any Joe Nutjob off the streets into their ranks, the group as a whole wouldn't have, and more importantly, wouldn't be perceived to have, basic levels of competence.

A. There are several different types of organizations available depending upon the state of residence. Amongst those are various pseudo-partnerships such as PAs, limited liability companies (LLCs), and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) or corporate forms such as professional corporations (PCs). I believe that PAs are the most common in New Jersey (where I reside), but the form of the entity should be chosen based upon insurance considerations and tax planning. Good luck.
